4th & Long: Rangers tip the Billy Goats as they cruise to another victory

The Smithson Valley Rangers, Freshmen Blue Team, hit the field once again for their Week 5 matchup against the Battlin’ Billies of Fredericksburg at the friendly confines of Jumbo Evans Sports Complex. The day started off rough with the defense coming out flat to start but ended with the fans celebrating a 32-6 victory late into the night with music and dancing fueled by a little bit of the Devil’s nectar. The win moves the Rangers, Freshmen Blue Team, to 5-0 on the season with eyes on 6-0 next week against the Boerne Greyhounds.

The Rangers were led by Chastin “El Chasitan” Wiatrek who rushed for 136 yards and 3 touchdowns on 17 carries earning him the JYD (Junkyard Dog) belt. “It felt good to punch it in a few times. Coach told me I was the horse we were riding today. I didn’t know what that meant when he said it. I honestly still don’t, but he seems to know football.” said Wiatrek. “I really thought this thing would be heavier.” Wiatrek as his focus shifted to the coveted JYD belt. “The duct tape is deceiving. I thought it was real metal.” he said before turning to Assistant Coach Ted Bryant and asking “Hey Coach Ted, does this award come with some sort of coupon for a free shake at Sonic or something? They have a Sonic Blast made with M&M’s that is absolutely delicious. Have you tried it?” Coach Bryant responded “no” before walking off the field to wheels away the team water jug/shower.

The Rivers McInnis got the start at guard and had a few carries to run out the clock at the end of the game. “We had a couple of opportunities to get another score at the end.” McInnis recounted. “I felt like I could have punched it in, but we weren’t on the same page there. I thought the quarterback was gonna come back to hand the ball to me. He thought I was gonna run towards the line of scrimmage and get it from him.” he continued. “We kind of just stared at each other for a few seconds before he got tackled by 3 or 4 guys. He’s ok. He’s tough. I guess the line couldn’t hold their blocks very well. We’ll get those things cleaned up this week.”

The fans took to X, formerly known as Twitter, in support of the Rangers after the 32-6 win over the Battlin’ Billies. Tweets like this one from @BadBanana "These boys look like the real deal happy meal. @SVRangers(FreshmenBlue) Imagine what they could do against a 4-man front.” Another one saying "Lil’ homie #7 out there with them smooth moves. Look like a mix between Walter Payton and Michael Jackson. R.I.P. @SVRangers(FreshmenBlue)” from @5YearLetterman and @TheRealEdBailey says "I know someone bid $3,800! How’d I come home with a $3,600 dog?!? #CanineConspiracy @SVRangers(FreshmenBlue)”.

The Rangers, Freshmen Blue Team, may have started off slow today, but they are starting to run with the momentum at full speed with no signs of letting up. This team is fun to watch. If you witnessed the after party, you know the fans are enjoying bit of it.
