4th & Long: SV JV White’s winning streak snapped at 11 games after loss to Pieper Warriors
Pieper Warriors Gold beats Smithson Valley Rangers White in a 44-0 beatdown at Jumbo Evans Sports Park, snapping the Rangers 11-game winning streak. The highly anticipated matchup was advertised as a HCYFL heavyweight bout between two of the hottest 3rd and 4th grade teams in the country. That heavyweight bout turned into a glorified exhibition. Let’s take a look at what went right and what went very wrong Saturday for the Rangers.
What went right:
The opening kickoff was not returned for a touchdown
Jason “Cannonball” Schoenherr had a “gutsy” block on the second extra point attempt of the day by the Warriors placekicker (The reenactment can be seen in the video below)
What went very wrong:
Offense
Defense
Special Teams
Although the opening kickoff was not returned for a touchdown, it didn’t take long for the Warriors to punch it in from 55 yards out. From that point, the rout was on as they would then proceed to recover 3 consecutive onside kicks and convert them into quick touchdowns to hold a 26-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The “hands team” for the Rangers could be heard on the sidelines reliving the failed onside kicks. “The ball was just there, and I was just there. It was like two fate-destined objects meeting in the middle of a football field. It just shot off of my knee like a rocket.” said Christian “Johnny Red Gloves” Jordan. “I know. It was like something out of a cartoon and just shot the opposite direction, and before you could do anything, there was a pile of bodies with puke yellow jerseys on top of it.” said Jaxson “Jackie-san” Wiatrek.
The Warriors would score one more time before the end of the second quarter, making it 32-0 at halftime.
The team was in a state of shock. Players and coaches could sense it. Before Head Coach/Offensive Coordinator/Special Teams Coordinator got to the helmet tunnel, Jacob “Juice” Owens could be heard trying to inspire the team. “We're in the goldarn Hill Country Youth Football League, boys. I don't know about any of you, but I've been waiting my whole life to get here. And I'll be a monkey’s uncle if I'm gonna act like my best pig died just cuz we ain't doin' so good. I love to play football, and I'll bet, somewhere along the line, you all did too. Let’s go back out and show these Savannah Banana lookin’ clowns the meaning of JYD."
Those words fell flat as the uninspired football continued on the field in the second half. Ultimately, the Rangers were overmatched and handed their first defeat since November 2023.
The play on the field has the Smithson Valley Board of Regents on alert. No word on any unscheduled meetings to discuss any changes at the top. However, another showing like the one we witnessed on Saturday could cause some unrest amongst the fans.
The Rangers get a chance to right the ship Saturday, September 20th against the Cedar Park Timberwolves at the friendly confines of Jumbo Evans Sports Park.
